Healer Michael O'Doherty, who cured dancer Michael Flatley from a mystery illness, is going into business with Dragons' Den star Sarah Newman and her partner, legendary hurler DJ Carey.
 
The business plan will include a book, a DVD and seminars to show people how to treat stress and a wide variety of physical ailments through the flow of energy.

The unlikely partnership came about when Sarah Newman heard the healer speak at a conference.

“I come into contact with dozens of people who are under a phenomenal amount of pressure at the moment and it’s seriously affecting their well-being,” she says. “They are finding it very hard to cope with the pressure that comes in business these days — and those problems are almost coming at them like a hail of machine-gun bullets which they’re not able to dodge anymore.

“Michael can apply the process of moving energy though the body to make people feel better, more relaxed and better able to cope.”

Ms Newman, who became a dotcom millionaire after selling needahotel.com, described how she and DJ Carey have personally sought the help of Mr O’Doherty after coming under pressure from the downturn themselves.

“I want to dispel a myth right now — just because you’ve been successful in business, doesn’t mean you don’t have the same difficulties as everyone else. I have been under tremendous stress over the past 18 months. The general rule is the more you have, the more you’ve borrowed basically,” she explained.

“I’m just a girl who worked very hard as a single mother; nothing was ever handed to me on a plate. I’ve been through a lot of trauma — but you can’t give up.”

Giving an an honest assessment of her own financial situation, she said: “I have not been able to sell certain assets, they are no longer worth as much as they were, there are things that I had wanted to offload which are now a burden and I have to carry the cost of that.

“I’m also heavily involved in business enterprises where I have yet to get paid by clients, so cash flow is also a problem. Everyone is in the same boat. I now work more hours than I ever did in my life. But we all need to be strong to get through this difficult time.”

The Celtic tigress also revealed how her hurling star partner benefited from Mr O’Doherty’s treatments after stress got the better of the national sporting hero.

“DJ has found that he is a lot more positive now, he feels stronger and he has far more energy than before. If you’re under a huge amount of pressure it is like someone switches off a light and for DJ it was like someone unplugged his power support. But ever since he visited Michael, it’s like a cloud has been lifted,” she continued.

“There’s only so much you can do when you’re under pressure. It affects home life, children, family and it’s important to put things in perspective and realise the important thing is you do have a wonderful family and children. It’s like somebody plugged DJ back in again. He’s all fired up about work and life again, it’s extraordinary.”

Mr O’Doherty, who has just published a new book, Just Imagine: A Life Without Illness, rose to prominence after dancer Michael Flatley credited him with curing a mystery virus that struck him on the eve of the European tour of his show Celtic Tiger.

Although leading doctors were unable to clarify what virus had struck the dancer down, Flatley experienced a dramatic full recovery after being treated by the healer.

Since then other Irish stars who have visited Mr O’Doherty include international footballer Gary Kelly and Matt Molloy of The Chieftains.
